Equestrian Flashbacks - Portguese Bend Show Posters

While touring PV homes last week I saw this poster for the 29th annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show in Palos Verdes.  Last year was the 56th annual show...  These posters have been designed by the art students in the local school for the last 25 years.  I remember submitting a design during my senior year at Peninsula High.

The shows are an all weekend affair in the fall and held in the huge Weber equestrian facilities at Ernie Howlett park in Palos Verdes.  Here is our article on last year's show.  For more on the show which benefits the Children's Hospital, here is their website: PCCH - Portuguese Bend Horse Show.

Portuguese Bend Horse Show in Palos Verdes - Sept 6-8 2013

The 56th annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show is next weekend in Palos Verdes! This fundraiser event benefits the Children's Hospital in LA, is organized by the Peninsula Committee Children's Hospital and attendance is expected to be between 3000 and 5000. The equestrian events begin at 8 am on Friday at Ernie Howlett Park in Rolling Hills Estates with the other festivities starting at 10 am.

General admission is listed as free on Friday, $5 on Saturday & Sunday with kids 12 and under free all weekend. Ringside tables and chairs are offered under the reserved seating fees on the mini fact sheet below.
From the PCCH website:

"For three days, this A-rated PORTUGUESE BEND NATIONAL HORSE SHOW having two fully scheduled arenas offers a wide variety of classes, including the prestigious PCHA Horsemanship Medal Finals for riders 14 and under and the newly awarded PCHA Victor Hugo Vidal Adult Horsemanship Class for riders 35 and over. In addition, the $10,000 Barby Hartwig Hereford Jr-A/O Jumper Classic and the $15,000 Seahorse Jumper Classic promise to challenge some of the West Coast’s finest riders with difficult and exciting courses.

The PENINSULA COMMITTEE is unique in that entire families become involved in the colorful show. They provide planning, preparation and personnel to staff the event and they give, in the process, over 15,000 volunteer hours each year. An atmosphere of hometown fun is created through the decorations, booths and boutiques. Puppet shows, pony rides, face painting and moon bounce are just some of the popular activities of the Children’s Circle. Many food booths entice the crowds with items for breakfast, lunch and snacks."

Also, in a PV tradition, the local high school artists competed to design the yearly poster. Peninsula People covered Valerie Kelly, the Horse Show Chair, in their July 2013 issue. We'll be stopping by, hope to see you there!
